Natural Insulation in Log Homes

Natural Insulation in Log Homes

Eco friendly natural insulation used in our log homes, timber frame modular houses and log cabins, rates almost zero carbon footprint in its manufacture with minimal environmental impact. As most of our work consists of bespoke design, so you will have a choice of insulation material.

Log Home Scotland's natural insulation materials are derived from sources, which are both renewable and sustainable.

The properties of natural insulation are ideal for timber constructions: log homes, log cabins and modular timber frame houses. Unlike man made products, natural insulation has the ability to 'breathe', absorb airborne moisture (up to 25% of its weight), which result in both lower condensation and internal humidity. The net effect in a log home is to generate a synthetics - free 'micro - climate' which provides healthy and comfortable living space.

Our log homes have Flax in between the logs and flexible wood fibre insulation (featured opposite) resulting in superior thermal efficiency U values that are well ahead of UK regulations.

Other natural insulation materials available are Hemp fibres from Hemp straw and sheep's wool insulation. Both are excellent for acoustics, are sound absorbers and heat insulators.
