Log Profiles

Our log homes and log cabins are made of solid logs. This slow growing, ring-dense Scandinavian pine is known world wide for its strength, durability and superior natural thermal insulation, as excellent raw material for log buildings.
Log Home Scotland round logs have an unusual oval profile, which keeps the looks and feel of a round log house, but with a wider ridge between the logs, is warmer in fact than a round-log house.
We offer two different log profiles - square logs and round logs (Oval).

  • Round logs (Oval):
    • 150 mm (height 134mm)
    • 175 mm (height 150mm)
    • 195 mm (height 176mm)
  • Square logs:
    • 92 mm (height 160mm)
    • 118 mm (height 180mm)
    • 142 mm (height 180mm)
    • 165 mm (height 180mm)
    • 200 to 230mm (Hand peeled/hand crafted)
  • Laminated square logs:
    • 88 mm
    • 113 mm
    • 134 mm
    • 165 mm

Larger logs of up to 330mm thickness are available also, on request.

Inside insulation for a square profile Log house is "sandwiched" between external log wall and internal matching log profile panel in a way that is nearly impossible to notice that the house is insulated, appearing as single solid log inside and out. Insulating round log house is more complicated, more labour intensive (more expensive) especially when the internal log profile has to mirror/copy round log profile (D-profile panel).

It is also possible to build double-wall (twin wall) log house. Insulation is between two log walls resulting in a super strong and warmer log house. This option is more suitable for much colder climates than our gulf stream moderated Scottish weather. Nonetheless the choice is yours.
Our logs are kiln-dried to humidity of 20% (+/- 2%) This increases structural stability and enables occupancy immediately after construction.
